Micheal Dietrich Terradyne Networks	Posted - 2008.06.05 19:09:00 - [1] We've seen and heard of these stories before but this seriously disgusts me every time it happens. It makes me wonder where human compassion has gone. Logical thought and looking out for your fellow man. Are people so wrapped up in their day, so full of themselves, that they can't take a few minutes to help another? I just read an article about a hit and run of a eldery man and it comes with a video. In the video he's just laying there in the road dieing. Nobody runs out to help him. The traffic hardly even slows down. It's horrible, just downright horrible and it **es me off. I might sound like a *** every now and then in OOPE but in the real world I have a conscious. If I see somebody stuck on the side of the road I pull over and ask them if they help. I hold the doors open for the eldery, I don't care if it takes them 3 hours to get through that door, I still hold it open. Wether I know CPR or not, I'll still try to do anything because I know anything is something more than nothing. Seeing something like this just makes me sick. Video Article I seriously hope they catch those responsible and that they get punished to the full extent of the law. As for the bystanders, I hope they have a hard time sleeping.

I think lots of people don't want to get involved with things because of fear of consequences. Stories in newspapers about people being assaulted and robbed after going to help someone lying in the street (person lying in street is accomplice), stories about people being sued for giving first aid, things like that. I came across an old man lying against some railings in the street on Tuesday. He'd had a dizzy spell and had fallen over. I'd stopped my van to help him, and phoned for the paramedics. Thing was though, that this was outside some shops, and a school, so there were a lot of people out and about. Lots of passing traffic as well, yet I was the only one to stop. Maybe that's that thing about how large numbers of people are less likely to do things than small numbers, because they all think "someone else will do something". All those are chances I'm willing to take.

The guy who hit him certainly made a serious mistake by crossing that double line, unless the traffic rules are significantly different in the US. Deserves punishment, obviously. Escaping the scene is also hardly understandable, except of course if he's a wanted criminal already. Even stopping traffic is something. Calling the paramedics is something. Or even talking/comforting the guy is something. Looking at the situation that is a 2 lane road and both cars crossed illegally into the opposite lane. Had another vehicle been there you would have seen a head on collision. I'm willing to bet that both drivers are teens. I'm willing to bet they were having a joyride race around town, one guy trying to keep up with his buddy. The second guy hit the old man and just freaked and kept on going. I'm hoping he's smart enough to come forward but chances are he'll hide.

The more laws that attempt to force a society to act a certain way are only met with resistance. Remember that canadian border ipod/laptop thing? I seem to remember lots of people being ****ed at that. I dont want to be held accountable for not helping someone when I could have. That could be interpreted in too many ways by the twisted legal system, and it takes away my FREEDOM. I do agree this is a unfortunate thing, but people get hit by cars lots. Just because this is one of the times it was caught on camera makes the whole story that much more disturbing? What makes it more disturbing is that fact that people appear to be going about their daily lives like this is an ordinary event. What will go through your mind if you get hit by a car (aside from the windshield). Won't you be wishing so be saved at that moment? You can see in the vedio that the man is still moving and probably semi-coherant. What if he looked over and just saw people standing there picking their nose. I know it's absolutely horrible to get your hands dirty sometimes but that's life and in some cases that's somebody else's life. Some day it may be yours.

Seriously dude if youre gonna try to argue one of my points try using an educated response. If this whole situation makes you sick, why don't you DO something like volunteer at the hospital? I think you are the type to just sit back and complain about how awful the world is instead of getting your own hands 'dirty'. Failure to read the first post, good job. 1 year ago a man's truck was broken down in the road and he stood there staring at his vehicle while people went around him. I couldn't help him get his truck started but I was able to chain it to mine and atleast get him off the road and call for assistance. I was late to work that day. 9 years ago I was stabbed trying to stop a guy from beating up his girlfriend. Everyone else in the room responded by being little statues. I don't. Daily I open doors for people wether they be older couples or maybe a parent carrying their child. I got 2 free hands and 5 minutes of my life to put on hold. When my friends wife left him with 2 kids and a ****load of bills he didn't even have to ask, I moved in and got him back on his feet. I was walking through a mall one day and saw a special needs group moving about. One of them had a walker and kneepads and as he was moving by me he gained too much speed and fell to his knees. I held out my hand and picked him back up. When I walked around downtown on Friday nights and saw somebody passed out drunk I would make sure they're ok then call them a cab. Then I would stick with them until said cab showed up. I do these kinds of things all the time, it's who I am. You call me uneducated, others call me nice.

Luckily for him our mutual friend 'D' who can bench 2 of me 'escorted' him before I could react. Karma works wonders though. He was arrested on other charges a year later and is serving 10 in the state prison. As for me I've always got a knife on me now.

I've got several medium size throwing knives (a 2 pack and a single) that I practice with all the time. Got a target board set up outside. The single fits in my boot but I dont carry it everywhere. I also have 2 throwing stars that I play with for fun although I'm not as good with those. My pocketknife is a double bladed (2 blades) fancy looking thing that can also make a great fistpack. Theres also about 5 more knives throughout the house and about 500 boxknifes that I kiped from work years back. I just never carried one around regularly until after that incident.

So when my lease was up at the place I was staying at I hadn't saved up any money to get into a new house. My friend Dan said I could stay with him and his GF in the crappy part of town until I could find a place of my own as they were renting a 4 bedroom/2 bath house. See the crappy side of town part? To shorten the story some this was a drug house. Drugs came in, Drugs went out. Hot items came in, hot items went out. Random stoners raided the fridge and couches, random stoners went out. Got the jist of it? Not the best place to be. Lots of parties though including one where we set the porch on fire and played William Tell at 3am in the morning. So there's me, Dan, and his GF. 90% of my ** was in storage. My gun (.22 I didn't own any of the others until atleast a year later) was in my dad's gunsafe as I didn't want that to be an item to go out. My personal belongings was a mattress, blanket, pillow, clothes in a duffel bag, and a couple of knives. OK, so we got a couple of regulars that stop by, D, Joker, and Seth. Real tough guys, always going to jail, always beating peoples faces in. If somebody owed you something you talk to them and the next day you will see it. D took a liking to me right off and we'd always be doing things like making a homemade crossbow or building pipebombs to blow up in the desert. So they would come over alot and hang out and drink. Sometimes in the living room, sometimes in the back room (where some of the harder happened), sometimes in the back yard while we caused random destruction. They also had girlfriends. Seth's girlfriend would come over all the time and hang with Dan's gf. She would complain about how bad Seph can be cause she's a stupid * and wont leave him. In fact almost weekly she would bring a bunch of crap over and claim she's moving out but she wouldn't and we'd get left with more of her crap (like a fish we never took care of. How that thing survived is beyind me). So we have Me, Dan, Seph, D, Joker, Girlfriends, random stoners all coming and going. Oh yeah did I mention some of these guys were real tough guys and we lived in a crappy neighborhood at a drug house? You stay out of peoples business in these places. Like if I keep my mouth shut my handful of belongings don't go missing. So one night everyone was around the house partying it up. Beer all over, rock in the back, a bag full of pills in a bedroom. Seths GF was off running her mouth about all kinds of things and Seth told her repeatidly to STFU but it didn't help. Finally after the 5th time or so he ran over and full on * slapped her ass. Tough guys, keep your mouth shut, remember? I was on the couch next to them and I stood up and pushed Seth over the coffee table and started yelling at him. He got back up and I thought he was gonna punch me so like a idiot I stuck my arms out gangster like and in comes a knife. I managed to slide back a little but I still got it. Everyone was silent at this point. I looked at the cut in my chest and said alright, you wanna play we'll play and I jump over the other couch and headed for my room. Seth would have followed and would probably go for a backstabbing but D (Can bench 2 of me remember, remember?) bear hugged him and led him out of the house and far away. You see D has seen me throw my knives. Seth didn't have a throwing knife. After that the crowd dispersed into the night. I couldn't go to the hopsital because they would ask questions and I live in a drug house (got it?) Seth never came around again but D still would and D kept him in check. The stupid *** kept staying with him and I got a war trophy. Later on we all got evicted (who knew we had to pay rent), I moved away and got cleaned up.
